We want you to know that we’re doing everything we can to keep both the students we have living with us at the moment safe, and to put measures in place to make Ardmuir the safest it can be for when you return to us in the next few months. In order to put your mind at ease, we wanted to share what are and will be doing to keep you safe.
One measure which we thought was really important for your safety was putting hand sanitiser stations around our properties. These are stationed at the office and at the bottom of each block for you to use on your way to university and when you come home to keep you safe. Our hand sanitiser dispenser at the office is sensor activated, so you don’t even need to touch it. We have also put up posters beside the hand sanitiser stations with guidance on how to keep yourself safe, and how to effectively sanitise your hands.
To enable you to complete your studies at home, as we know many of you will have to undertake off-campus online learning to some extent, we have WiFi at a minimum speed of 40MB (up to 120MB). In addition to this, all of our bedrooms come with a desk, desk chair and desk lamp, so you will have a comfortable designated study space to complete any remote learning you have to do. We also have a private student lounge which you can exclusively book out to meet up with your classmates to study together. It is fully equipped with a large screen and projector so that you can put your lecture slides up and go through them together.
In previous years, we have offered you either a 46 or 51-week contract, however, due to the current situation that we find ourselves in, we spoke to you to see what we could do to help, and so we have added a 44-week contract. This enables you to push back the start date of your contract from the 5th of September 2020 to the 19th of September 2020, to align with the university start date being delayed, so you aren’t paying for weeks of your contract which you don’t require. We have a designated cleaning team who ensure that your flat and common areas such as stairwells are kept clean for your safety.
Once normal cleaning schedules resume, they will visit your flat once every two weeks to clean the bathroom, living room, kitchen and corridors, but until then, we have offered free cleaning products to our tenants in place of our cleaning service. They are still regularly cleaning common areas, such as by wiping down door handles to keep Ardmuir a safe and clean space. Our maintenance team are hard at work to ensure everything is working as it should and to respond to any problems you have as soon as they can.

To keep you safe, we have modified the office to allow us to practice social distancing and to ensure that you can stay at a safe distance away from us, but that you are still able to chat to us in person, if need be. We have installed a counter when you come in the front door, we are operating a one-way system, we are only allowing one student in at a time, and we have also installed Perspex screens around our desks to keep us all safe.
